About Me

Screen neck pain

I went into the chiropractors after I kept suffering from neck pain and couldn't sleep at night. My chiro let me know I had a common issues - screen neck! I'm addicted to my smart phone, and because I spent so much of the day with my neck down looking at my phone with my neck slanted, I started to get pain. It's a bit embarrassing, but I know I'm not the only one with this issue, so I'm starting a blog. I am putting up some links to stretches you can do to help screen neck and contacts to chiropractors when it's time to get professional help.

Why Regular Remedial Massages Are Not Exclusively Beneficial To Athletes

You may have had the occasional massage for relaxation but you should know that this type of massage is not the same as the remedial variety. Generally speaking, a relaxation massage has the primary function of enhancing your mental well-being, whereas a remedial massage is for your physical wellness. Because of this difference, most people associate remedial massage therapy with amateur and professional athletes, as they are prone to muscle aches and pains.

However, anybody can benefit from a remedial massage, as it entails the manipulation of your muscles, tendons, connective tissue and ligaments to address underlying problems that you may be unaware of. Read on for a couple of the ways that you might benefit from regular remedial massages.

Remedial massages will improve the functioning of your circulatory system

Efficient circulation is key for various reasons. When your circulation is poor, it will cause issues such as joint pain, numbness and tingling in your extremities, lower limb swelling and so on. If you do not see a medical professional for these problems, you can develop severe health conditions such as oedema or thrombosis. Thrombosis refers to the development of a clot, typically in your legs.

If the clot breaks free, it will travel upwards, making its way to your lungs, and this will cause a pulmonary embolism. Regular remedial massages can get ahead of this problem by improving the functioning of your circulatory system. Additionally, the increased flow of oxygen-rich red blood cells will promote the healing of damaged cells, which restores their functionality.

Remedial massages help keep your blood pressure manageable

Your blood pressure is crucial to your overall well-being, since high or low blood pressure will have adverse effects on your body. When your blood pressure is constantly high, it exerts excessive pressure on your arteries and subsequently your heart. Over time, the arteries thicken, and this causes them to harden. When an artery is no longer flexible enough to keep up with the increased volume of blood, it will erupt, and this causes a stroke or a heart attack.

On the flip side, low blood pressure means the blood is not circulating as efficiently as it should be. Hence, you become at risk of health problems, since parts of your body are being deprived of the oxygen and nutrients they need. Remedial massages help with maintaining normal diastolic and systolic blood pressure. Consequently, you are less at risk of a heart attack.
